Competing in the National Series?

Here's what you need to know

RCBMX is looking forward to hosting competitors from all around Australia for the 2022 AusCycling BMX National Series, Round 4 and Round 5 here in Alice Springs.

We've put together this short guide to answer questions about accomodation, practicing on the track and what to expect when competing.

Accomodation

August 27 & 28 is one week prior to another major event here in Alice Springs, so we recommend you book early as it will fill up fast. There are plenty of options to choose from such as hotels, motels, cabins and resorts.

For those who don't mind camping, Blatherskite Park, which is home to RCBMX, is a great choice. While not an actual caravan park, Blatherskite has all the amenities and facilities you'd expect and will give you the shortest travel time to the track!

Weather

Between July and August, average temperatures in Alice Springs fall between 4°C and 20°C, with July being the coolest month. At night our temperatures can drop below 0°C, this is when you might see a thick frost on the ground.

Being in the desert, Alice Springs has a very dry climate and atmosphere however, it is drier in Spring and Summer. 

Things to do

There's plenty to see and do in and around Alice Springs.

Araluen Arts Centre is home to art exhibitions and historic collections are housed in the museum.

Learn more about the history of Alice Springs with a visit to the Alice Springs Telegraph Station, Anzac Hill, Flynns Grave, the Central Australian Aviation Museum and the RFDS Tourist Facility & Museum.

Enjoy time outdoors and be encompassed in MacDonnell Ranges at Simpsons Gap or enjoy a meal at the cafe and a walk through Standley Chasm.

Iconic events

Come and enjoy some dusty boat racing at our desert regatta - Henley on Todd Regatta is happening on Saturday 20 August, for those who will be here early.

For the riders who are also revheads, Red Centre Nats will be on the weekend after. Drag cars, burn out cars, show cars, 4WDs, bikes and plenty of passion projects will be on display at a range of motorsport events. ​
